Collect Your Trophy!

Blind box collection that raises awareness about Trophy Hunting of exotic animals.

Collect Your Trophy! is a collection of blind boxes designed to raise awareness and spark conversation about the issue of trophy hunting. Each box contains one of five different animal figurines, symbolizing real animals affected by this practice. Profits from the collection go directly to an environmental organization working to protect wildlife.

I chose this topic because I was shocked to learn that trophy hunting is still prevalent today - not only persisting but evolving into a form of tourism where people pay to hunt pre-selected animals. I wanted to create a project that informs the public about this issue and encourages action against it.

What is Trophy Hunting?

Trophy Hunting is hunting of wild animals for sport and for the thrill. Usually, the animals are stuffed as decoration or parts of their body is sold in auction.

This project is intended to raise awareness about Trophy Hunting, educate the public about this topic, and prevent it from harming more innocent animals.

Survey

I surveyed the RISD community and received 25 responses in one day. Here's a summary of the survey and the response.

While many respondents were neutral about hunting for food, ritual, or survival, the majority strongly opposed trophy hunting for sport. Some of their responses included:

"Trophy hunting is unnecessary suffering to appease only the human ego."

"It’s one of the main reasons animals are going extinct, aside from habitat loss."

"These animals are not being respected as living creatures and trophy hunting disrupts the natural order in it’s environment which can cause many ecological issues which in turn will effect the people who live off the land and don’t just use it as a playground."

I decided to move forward with the second idea. Recognizing that I couldn't stop trophy hunting alone, I focused on spreading awareness. The profit from the blind box will go directly to the Humane Society of the United States, and each box includes a QR code linking to an environmental organization's website, allowing buyers to learn more and contribute further to wildlife protection.

Target Audience

By placing these blind boxes in stores like Pop Mart and Miniso, I aim to introduce a wider audience - especially young adults and collectors - to this issue in an engaging way.
